Season Rider

I’ve always questioned myself  what should it be to be whole season on the snow spot.

No need to travel for hours to get the first chair?, no new random accommodations?, plenty of local rider contacts?, exploring the resort for new places?, chance to hit the fresh pow?, a lot of parties,? physical practices every day to be in shape?.

I guess it is somewhere in between as everything in life.

Check out this post season video, this is good friend of mine, who spend the whole season in Bansko Resort, Bulgaria chasing his dream which is something in between all that things above.

“Magical” Soul Music by “Lady Daisey”

Movie about Bulgarian Snowboard scene

Have you heard of René Eckert ? This young producer from Auerbach is shooting movies which represent the snowboard scene in different eastern European country’s for the last couple of years. He have real talent in shooting and representing stories. His last snowboard movies was about Bulgaria – my loved home country. The movie is called “At equilibrium” and it’s real piece of art, I would not like to spoil it for you, so just take a look at it.

Ski Park Kartala

Last weekend my friends had a great idea, they proposed to visit small and very unpopular resort in Bulgaria called “Ski Park Kartaka”. The resort have just two lifts – one drag lift and gondola lift, which was recently placed(last year as far as I know).

The altitude is high enough to get fresh snow even in February, the lowest level is approx 1100, while the highest is ~2000m. The gondola took you the highest point in 15min from which there are plenty of choices. You can go downhill skiing on the slope or took thee freeride. Around the slope there is a lot of big rocks and natural jumps. The back country starts a litte bit flat and boring but just a hundred meters down it became a real pleasure.

Last but not less important fact is Blagoevgrad city,  just 27km away from the slope, You can go back in the city for some night life in 40min or even take an hotel in the city.

Here are some pics from the weekend trip.

Sofia Traffic

Normally I’m getting really upset during my morning drive to work. The traffic is crazy and everybody is speeding to get on time.

This morning was different, for 4th day in a row, I found my car covered by 2 inches of snow. This is only the beginning of the morning, after the washing of the car the white journey begins. The whole neighborhood have a totally different view – it’s amazing. In a moment I’ve forgot about all the pushy drivers around me, the work that waits for me… I was in a white fairytale.

It’s really nice when the whole trees and streets are covered in white, like you are in a new city, a lot more clean and peaceful. The white color is hiding all the mess in a very stylish way.
Here is some pictures taken with my phone during the morning traffic

Playing with firmwares on diffrent devices

I will never forgot my first try to mess with an original firmware in order to get more functions. It was a while ago, the summer of 2007 actually when the iphone 1st gen was released. The device was quiet good without messing it with actually, but by the time being it was locked to work exclusively on AT&T only. I did not have one, until I’ve got the news from hackint0sh.org forums that it was possible to get iPhone working on T-Mobile. Then I”ve get to the AT&T store asap and bought one. Just two hours later I did have an iPhone which was working on T-Mobile.

The process itself involved two very major points:
1) Jailbreaking the device. The term jailbreak related to iPhone spheres means that you are getting full access to the device operating system, such as listing processes, messing with drivers(kexts), running scripts and so on.
2) Unlocking the phone. The process with which you trick your phone to work with carriers different than AT&T. Once you pass the first step, you can use any kind of commands and tools(even 3rd party apps) in order to get that point. The beauty of iPhone is that actually under the shiny interface, you’ve a fully working BSD system.
In these days if you would like to get more familiar with iPhone jailing/unlocking I would suggest to use only this source: http://blog.iphone-dev.org . Thouse guys are involved in the iPhone scene from the very beginning. They tools are always free of charge and working great, so don’t be blinded by flashy sites that request money from you.

Ever since that day I’m always looking to mess with my own hardware in order to get extended functionality. The story did repeat with my Canon A Series PowerShot camera for which my goal was to get the camera to shoot RAW pictures. This was easy accomplished by custom canon firmware named CHDK. The RAW fuction is just small part of it. For full list of features and options you can read more on their wiki site.

Next were mine Xbox360 game console and my Portable Sony Playstation. Here I was looking for a way to play already backedup games. For thouse two game consoles I highly recommend thouse two sources and bulletin boards: http://xbox-scene.org and http://psp-hacks.com

After the consoles next in the list was my car navigation, I needed a new software with more accurate maps. Thankfully I’ve found www.gpspassion.com which were already done everything that you can think of. Things like watching movies/listening mp3/attaching rear camera/speed alerts/traffic conditions are just 30-90minutes reading away from your device.

Last month I was reading all about the jail processes for the PlayStation 3, because it was the only game platform which was not hackable, but not anymore. I really wanted to try that hack, but I did not want to spend money on second game console. So I did fire some phones and find out that friend of mine will be very happy to hack his PS3. Right now the borough PS3 console is sitting right next to me, waiting for it’s hack.

It’s kind a strange that I’m more enthusiastic about the jail/hack itself rather then the benefits that this jail will give me. I cannot catch myself in front of the TV or PC to playing games for more then 1hour.
Once the firmware is jailed//changed I’m the happiest person on the earth. I think the reason for that is I feel great when I change or broke some big corporation initial plans.

I’m going to leave you guys, just because very soon I will feel that feeling once more with that PS3 console.
Thanks for reading,
Cheers

Bike Weekend iMovie

Unfortunately last days I’m spending a lot of time at home because I’m sick. However I’ve managed to turn that so called “bad” time in something fun and nice by compiling a movie from my Bike trip on June 26th.

The trip to Tryavna was not only about biking, actually we’ve gather together to celebrate our dear friend Yana, Birthday and her name-day. The place is offering a very good trails for biking(either DH or AL), so Yana recommended to me over the phone that I’ve should bring my bike.  So this is what happened indeed, we’ve gather to celebrate on Friday night with beer and BBQ and on saturday morning after everyone awaken we gather together and choose the route. It was more than nice XC trail with a lot of great view and some technical parts. It was around 30km long. Here you can see only the last 3.25 km of downhill cuz I’ve forgot to start my App earlier.

After this trail I was still having an anger for a little bit more pedaling, so I’ve remembered that there was a geocache(this is something which I also love to do, but some other time for it) nearby Tryavna, which actually I could not find last time when I was in Tryavna, It was about 2 years ago. The target was clear so I’ve gone for second bike run + geocaching hunt. Fortunately this time I’ve found the cache and it turns out that from it’s final  coordinates there was a great marked trail downhill to the city. Instead of logging the speed and route, I’ve record raw movies with the help of my latest gadgets: Jobypod for iPhone. With this gadget I’ve manage to mount my iPhone to my bike bar. Sometime soon I hope I can tell you a little bit more about Jobypod in Products section.

So here is the final thing that I was performing today : The post-editing which I’ve done with very handy iMovie, it’s quiet easy and self explaning, you can also watch a lot of great video tutorials from apple website. It offers you a great video stabilization for movies with actions + you can perform very smooth transition and audio+video matching. It’s the perfect home editing tool. It took me more time to find the music which is suitable match  for my videos, than organizing and setting all the text, transitions, fades and animations. Note: For sure some of the features like video stabilization are going to take you a lot of time, if you don’t have a fast CPU.

So here is the final result of my afternoon work:

I hope you gonna like it, all feedback is welcomed all the time.
