Kendama 剣玉

Meet my new play toy. It’s called kendama which actually is a word, it is written with two kanjis, which actually represent the toy components: a ball(tamma 玉)and a spike (ken 剣).
The game principle is catching one object with another, where both are joined by a string. It’s very popular concept. There are known similar toys, such as the Latin American balero and French bilboquet. This kind of toys were developed in all hunting cultures. They were mainly used to train kids during early childhood of hand-eye co-ordination. Later on this games were used mainly as kid toys and for gambling.

It’s a great toy to get you loose during the day. It doesn’t need a lot of time or effort. Except you are aiming to compete in Japanese kendama leagues.
Everything starts with simple catching of the ball with the pike, when you master it, you can improvise jiggle sequences and so on. But let me show you what the Pros are actually capable of. Maybe it will look easy for you, if you never before play such kind of games, but still take a look:

I bought one for me from KendamaUSA (the guys from movie above) and love it. This guys have a great assortment of Kendamas. I did get the Ozora, purely Japanese Kendama imported from Japan. Love the packaging and the labels, but I can not read anything ;)

It’s time to play my kendama, see ya soon.

iPad 2 – The greatest toy in my gear

SmartCover as a stand

Since monday I’m proud owner of brand new iPad 2. I give myself five days before writing that down. For the last five days I’m spending most of my time playing/browsing on that devices. I’m amused how quick and fast the iPad2 is. It’s feel even faster than my MacBook Air. It’s amazing.

After five days of using I would like to say that device is total replacement for my Mac at home when it concern for everyday usage such as browsing, watching movies, listening to music, reading and replying mails, facebook, tweeter. It’s all in-one fun device.

Of course when it comes to work, it’s too much to gulp in order to be productive. Probbably you will be able to text process and make some spreadsheets. But when you need to diagnose something, draw a design, code something. An iPad is not for that.

I have been playing with all iOS devices since the very first iPhone 2G, but I’ve never been able to use an iOS most of my day without the help of computer to check something or write an email. The story with new iPad 2 is different.

Without any doubts I can say that the iPad2 is the perfect device for home. It’s not supposed to work at home, but enjoying your time in which iPad is the best. Perhaps it can took you a little bit away from your family, but that’s up to you after all.

Last but not least my impression from the smartcover is not bad either. That leather cover feels great on touch. With his magnets it snap instantly on the right place. I was a little bit afraid that it will scratch the iPad aluminum. But that is not possible due the little rubber glued on the cover handles. So it’s not even possible to make any scratches.

Some pictures of the iPad next to MacBook Air, to compare it thin profile.

Monster Drinks

Last Friday I was surprised to find out that Monster energy drinks are officialy selling in Bulgaria. The cans are localized in Bulgarian and they are bottled by Coca Cola Bulgaria. They sell 3 kinds of them: The original, Lo-Carb and Ripper.
I did not know that Coke company were selling them in Europe. I thought that Coke is trying to advertise they’re own energy drink nammed Coke Black.

However I’m very happy about the presence of Monster Energy Drinks in Bulgaria. Great taste in big package(500ml) for good price 3,2BGN(1,6EUR). Which compared with the most popular energy drink here: RedBull is a lot more better.
But that is not the only reason why I so excited about energy drink. Monster Energy is one my favourite brands mainly because they are supporting one of the best extreme events in world-scale. Events such as X-Games, Drift and car challenges are always supported by them.

Playing with firmwares on diffrent devices

I will never forgot my first try to mess with an original firmware in order to get more functions. It was a while ago, the summer of 2007 actually when the iphone 1st gen was released. The device was quiet good without messing it with actually, but by the time being it was locked to work exclusively on AT&T only. I did not have one, until I’ve got the news from hackint0sh.org forums that it was possible to get iPhone working on T-Mobile. Then I”ve get to the AT&T store asap and bought one. Just two hours later I did have an iPhone which was working on T-Mobile.

The process itself involved two very major points:
1) Jailbreaking the device. The term jailbreak related to iPhone spheres means that you are getting full access to the device operating system, such as listing processes, messing with drivers(kexts), running scripts and so on.
2) Unlocking the phone. The process with which you trick your phone to work with carriers different than AT&T. Once you pass the first step, you can use any kind of commands and tools(even 3rd party apps) in order to get that point. The beauty of iPhone is that actually under the shiny interface, you’ve a fully working BSD system.
In these days if you would like to get more familiar with iPhone jailing/unlocking I would suggest to use only this source: http://blog.iphone-dev.org . Thouse guys are involved in the iPhone scene from the very beginning. They tools are always free of charge and working great, so don’t be blinded by flashy sites that request money from you.

Ever since that day I’m always looking to mess with my own hardware in order to get extended functionality. The story did repeat with my Canon A Series PowerShot camera for which my goal was to get the camera to shoot RAW pictures. This was easy accomplished by custom canon firmware named CHDK. The RAW fuction is just small part of it. For full list of features and options you can read more on their wiki site.

Next were mine Xbox360 game console and my Portable Sony Playstation. Here I was looking for a way to play already backedup games. For thouse two game consoles I highly recommend thouse two sources and bulletin boards: http://xbox-scene.org and http://psp-hacks.com

After the consoles next in the list was my car navigation, I needed a new software with more accurate maps. Thankfully I’ve found www.gpspassion.com which were already done everything that you can think of. Things like watching movies/listening mp3/attaching rear camera/speed alerts/traffic conditions are just 30-90minutes reading away from your device.

Last month I was reading all about the jail processes for the PlayStation 3, because it was the only game platform which was not hackable, but not anymore. I really wanted to try that hack, but I did not want to spend money on second game console. So I did fire some phones and find out that friend of mine will be very happy to hack his PS3. Right now the borough PS3 console is sitting right next to me, waiting for it’s hack.

It’s kind a strange that I’m more enthusiastic about the jail/hack itself rather then the benefits that this jail will give me. I cannot catch myself in front of the TV or PC to playing games for more then 1hour.
Once the firmware is jailed//changed I’m the happiest person on the earth. I think the reason for that is I feel great when I change or broke some big corporation initial plans.

I’m going to leave you guys, just because very soon I will feel that feeling once more with that PS3 console.
Thanks for reading,
Cheers

ThirtyTwo TM Two 08/09

This post was saved as Draft a long time ago(Dec 6, 2009), the time I’ve bought those boots. I did not find time the whole season for my blog to finish my article. Not the time came and I’m finishing my drafts. After the pictures you can find my opinion about that boots after the winter season.

This is an begining of new category: Products.

Here I will post reviews of mine exsisting and new products that I bought.

So here is my first object of review:
Brand new snowboard boots ThirtyTwo TM Two, model from last season at clearance price.

With the upcomming winter season I’ve started to prepare my equipment ready for the first snow. After short testing all of my equipment I’ve figure out that my boots are too soft. So the argument was there, then the action was needed – shoping for new pair of boots.
After long walk and fitting all kind of diffrent boots anf brands I’ve found the perfect one for me: ThirtyTwo TM Two.

It is model from last season so even the price was very good for such hi-end boot. Anyway I did not purchased it right away, I’ve read alot of reviews and spoke with all my snow buddys. The feedback was positive from everywhere. Then I’ve try to search around the internet EU stores for better price but I did not found so much good web stores as it is in US. If you know some good stores in EU please let me know about them.
Everything last checked: the boot was fitting perfectly in my Burton Cartel binding, both of the boots were on my feet and the feeling was great.
This boot gives you the support you need in the ancle, fixing perfectly your foot in the boots. All this is possible due the technologies 32 develop and implement in this boot, such as extra support in tong, evolution foam in the insole

It turns out that those boots are gr8 in mountain as much as they were in the shop. Of course there is some specific thing. You need to adjust very carefully how much pressure you would like to have in the tong, because this system could stop the blood in your feet. One more thing if you don’t use a binding which don’t fit very good on toe-cap you can unstitch some of the front joints.

Still the boot rocks, I’ve ride it the whole season at least twice a week + some winter long winter vacations like the one in French Alps for 10 days.

Perfect boot, perfect choice for every rider over 85kgs who need a good support in ankle and tong. Now looking forward to try Nike Zoom One.
